Posted Jan 30, 2010, 06:02:53 pm

I dug up my first gold ring for 2010 last night and its a good one. Not only is it gold but its a professional hockey championship ring. Its a Western Hockey League Championship ring that was won back in 1986 and the guy that this ring belongs to went on to play in the NHL. His name in on the otherside and I will be contacting him to get it back to him. Just wanted to share this with you all. I was totally blown away at this find. It is by far my best find so far. I found it at a low tide at a beach that has guys detecting it all the time. Pretty lucky to find it. Good luck to everyone. Thank you.

UPDATED February 26, 2010
Hi there, just wanted to let everyone know that I mailed Marks ring back awhile ago and I communicated with him yesterday and he has cofirmed to me that he has received his ring from the post office and so the championship ring is now back in his possession finally after all these years. Mark and I live very far away from each other so I am sorry I cannot post a returne picture of us together which would of been cool but I think when Mark gets a chance he may post a picture but the main thing is he now has his ring back. Thanks for the kind comments and happy hunting.

Now that is very cool and I bet that player will be very happy to get it back!  When a sport is basically your life, I think the accomplishments you achieve along the way mean a heck of a lot.  It's funny his greatest loss is probably your greatest find.

Looks like there's several to choose from...  Darcy Norton, Rob Brown, Mark Recchi, and those are just the ones I recognize and don't follow hockey.

   Banner all the way!

I agree with Iron Patch, someone put a lot of sweat out earning that ring. A return would be well worth the banner. I think even W&E Treasure would be interrested in this story. Contact them bcboy. Was'nt there someone just recently that was having a story done by W&E. Maybe they can help you. Just a thought!   Detectahead

Very cool.  My son plays Junior hockey here in the States, so it makes it even more interesting.  I found a Michigan Gold Gloves championship pin once, but there was no way to figure out who it belonged to.  I still have it.

Not that I want to sound like the typical Canadian but holy #*$! What a find! That's a killer ring!
How many people have found a WHL championship ring that belonged to a NHL defense man?
It would be great to see a true Canadian find up on the banner and my vote is in.

NFL is huge and I could see if it was a CFL ring, it wouldn't generate the votes but NHL come on people! There are more American franchise teams than Canadian and surely there are a lot of Penguin fans out there! I have seen less exciting gold rings (not referring to anything in particular)make it up there, so just click banner fellow T-netters!  thumbsup

NHL, NFL, NBA, ....shouldn't make a difference.  A championship ring is at best a rarity when found, especially from a pro team.  It's Banner material.  Once it gets back to the owner it should be an Honorable Mention as well.  Good luck on it BCBoy.

Hello all,
I am Mark Kachowski ,
Thanks zaxfire69 for the phone call, my wife was very skeptical and called me right away and i had to chuckle because i knew someday someone would find my ring, i lost the ring in Vancouver in 1987, i was in town working out and visiting an ex girlfriend before training camp with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1987. We went to the beach suntan lotion cold water and it was gone, it was like a movie in slow motion the ring popping up in the air, me fumbling to catch it, slipping through my fingers a couple of times and being it was a windy day the waves were crashing pretty hard i was only in two feet of water, gone. I knew someone would find it and hoped they would return it, But i did not expect it to be 22-23 years later.
I did go on and play parts of three seasons with the Penguins and had the fortune of playing with and against some of the Greatest players the game has ever seen.
I sent an Email with my contact info to bcboy
This is a very cool site, it seems to have a lot of great genuine people on here judging by the comments that were left!

Regards to All,
Mark Kachowski

How cool is this!?!

I love it when rings are returned! Hey Mark, I lost my high school ring at a San Antonio beach spot with an ex while I was stationed there back in 1988. I got a call in 2005 from a lady who found it and returned it.

We want to see pics of this ring returned!!!!! LOL I am also curious if the ring still fits, mine does not.

This is a really incredible and special find.  Congratulations to bcboy for finding this ring and for making the banner.

I do feel bad, though, as bcboy didn't get the opportunity to break the news himself to the owner of the ring who had lost it so many years ago.  That is truly a special thing that I look very forward to being able to do someday when I find a class ring at the beach or in a park somewhere.

Amazing story though, and very cool that the hockey player registered and posted about his lost ring.

I just got home and am pretty amazed at all the responses and making banner which I never though I would. I really am excited and best of all I now have Marks contact information and can get the ring back to him. This is awesome. Thanks very much for your help "zaxfire69". No worries about contacting him befoer me, Im gladd you did and now Mark can get his ring back. I showed his name in one of the pictures figuring someone would help out and thats great. The sooner the better. Ive been trying since I found the ring last Friday, which was January, 29th. I left an email with the Kamloops Blazers but have not receive a response yet and tried Canada 411 for a name search but nothing. I knew it was just a matter of time and here it is, six days latter and thanks to "zaxfire69" for his contribution Mark will get his ring back. I called Mark and left a message on his answering machine and hope to talk to him soon. Thanks again eveyone and all the best.

Oh Man  BCBOY...I am so glad you are able to get the ring back to him. Plus I am really happy that I could help you out.  Thank you for being so kind to me.  I was afraid you would get upset with me trying to help you out with the research end.   I saw your post this morning and just started looking.  I got lucky and found a post on the internet that showed his address.  After that I then used my Iphone that has an app that looks up phone numbers.  I thought this is to good to be true. His was listed.  Called the number all else is history.   If ANYONE ever needs me to help find anything just let me know.  I am willing to help anyone with anything.  After all that is what I joined Treasurenet for..BCBOY I am still in shock..Man do you realize that you found a ring lost 22 years ago and were able to find the owner after all those years.  What are the chances of that...You are the man...Keep up the good work..Let me know how everything turns out.   Your friend...Zaxfire69 of Mississippi!! headbang thumbsup

After all the gold, diamond, Roman, etc., finds posted almost daily, I find this story the most inspiring and uplifting, from beginning to end, with a great final scene still to come. As an almost daily MDer, there are a few items on my long list yet to find, and I just put at the top this experience, next to a gold coin hoard, of course.

Thanks to all the players in this beautiful story, and hope it gets some national press coverage as well, as it deserves.

To Mark,....  "For the loser now. Will be later to win."...... by B. Dylan.

To bcboy & all,......  "An important aspect of attracting what you desire in life is giving. The law of ten-fold return says that for every hour you spend helping someone, you will receive 10 hours from the Universe in return. For every dollar you give away, you will receive 10 dollars from the Universe in return. It might not come immediately, but it will come."

That is a great find and an even greater story, although I am disappointed that the finder didn't get the pleasure of locating and speaking with the owner and someone else felt it was their mission to intervene instead  icon_scratch

Oh well, least it gets returned and I'm sure bcboy is as excited about reuniting the ring with it's owner as he was when he dug it  thumbsup
