The temps were in the low 80's but the water temps were in the low 40's! Still, I had to give it a try. So I put on my chest waders with my wet suit under them & hit the "Old Shark Pit" today for the first time since last fall. I only lasted 2 hours before the tide came in & the wind and waves picked up. Water kept getting down waders and I got cold! I did find a few things though. First thing was a Brass ring. Next was a cookie coin that I'm sure is a dime, then the top of a ladies hat pin, a watch sprocket, a small hinge & a small sharks tooth. Last is a 12 oz clear glass bottle that says "J D O'Meara Washington D.C.. I do not know what came in it Soda or beer. I think I will wait until May to try again but I got my "fix" today. Thanks for looking! (For those of you that do not know about this place I call the shark pit, click here to find out the whole deal!) http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,18502.0.html

rtde3, In spite of having graduated from Yale, I am perplexed at the assortment of artifacts you've salvaged. Do you somehow scoop a particular place with a wire mesh basket? Is it it shallow? Please be so kind as to share your techniques. Thank you and very interesting.

Cap, Yes I use a 4' scoop & a floating sifter. (see picture) The sharks teeth & small glass items just come up in my scoop with the target I'm digging. The bottles I find when I step on them. Then I just kick them in my scoop. I use a Fisher CZ 20. Depending on the tide, it can be wast deep or chest deep. It's back! I was looking forward to the shark pit Nice finds! What's up Jake! This is just a sneak preview for later Bud. Stay tuned this spring!!

When you get into a tight place and everything goes against you till it seems you could not hold on a minute longer, never give up then for that is just the place and time that the tide will turn.

Good you got out! Like your home made sifter and gear, I just use a thick piece of stryrofoam but don't do much water hunting. HH, Mike

I'm assuming the areas are along a concrete pier or something similar as with waders on a good wave might take you to Davy Jones locker... Keep the Photos coming!

Thanks for the replies everyone! I'm glad you guys still remember "The Pit"! I have been itching to hit it again so when the temps hit the 80's I had to do it! Great digs, WTG!!! Looks like the place is still stocking itself... That sprocket looking thingy is an interesting item,,, Good luck, & happy hunting~ Hey Leon! Yes looks like the winter storms has turned up more stuff! The sprocket I'm pretty sure came from a watch/clock. I have found many of these out there. I'm assuming the areas are along a concrete pier or something similar as with waders on a good wave might take you to Davy Jones locker... Keep the Photos coming! Cap Z.
Cap, no concrete pier but it's fairly close to shore. So if the waves did get me I would not go far! This is the first time I have tried using the waders to stay dry & warm. It worked for awhile What is that in the background of the picture of you in the water?...a rock? Cheryl
Cheryl, it's a dorsal fin! It's not called The Shark Pit For Nothing! They don't bother me much when I'm out there. I just tune my CZ20 to the "Shark shock" setting and use the pin pointer button to zap them when they come in for the kill! Then I knock them out with my scoop! How do you think I get all those Sharks Teeth? I've been waiting for the saga to continue!!!! Thanks for the fix! Watching the finds that you get out of there is awesome. I still have the Barber Cookie Dime from the contest and it is a prized piece for me. It came from the famous Shark Pit! Rich Rich, That was fun! Maybe I will have another contest this spring! BTW, I am looking for my own shark pit down here in the Keys, wish me luck.
Good luck! YOU CAN DO IT!
