I cant believe my luck ! I just got my new headphones this morning but the rain was coming down hard FINALLY it let up for a bit so I headed to the orchard. Swinging along and digging trash......... I thought for sure that this signal was some more junk. Not very deep, so I was not very carefull. BAM !! Belt plate was in my hand and I was doing the happy dance! I managed to hit it with my shovel but.......... oh well, I have a freekin' belt plate Here are some pics, only dry cleaned so far. VPR

Not a plow I hit it with my shovel VPR Well, no matter (and we've all had that one day ) it's still one beautiful piece of history. More importantly, you recovered it so we could all enjoy it. Thank you, and glad you had the time to dig it, and share it!

That's a really great looking belt plate and certainly a banner find. I found a circa 1815-1825 militia belt plate back on November 10, 2006, and it made the banner (page 6, second row from bottom), so I think your's will be up there shortly. P.S. I like yours better!

When you are hot you're hot!!!! Man I haven't had a rool like that since 2002!!! You said only dry cleaned so far..... Surely you don't plan anything else on the plate! Maybe you'll finally get the banner for this. The token should have made it but unfortunately they not well known and get little respect here.

Det vi vet er så uendelig lite mot det som har hendt. Arkeologen er som den som går langs en strand og finner småtterier, skyllet i land fra et forsvunnet skib. Men selve skibet som gikk i dypet med menneskene får han aldri se.

Thank You to everyone !
I still cant beleive that I dug the best plate that I could hope for. The amount of trash here is overwheming. I want to go back with my ACE 250 and the sniper coil to see what else may be there. The plate was only about 4" deep.

Beautiful find. It's not in the same league as yours but I dug a Civil War Swordplate a few years back. I wear mine, took it to a leather shop and had it made into a belt.
Heartfelt congrats.

DM Sorry, I couldn't do that. Had a friend wear an authentic (and rare) Confederate button. One day it popped off and in another hundred years will get refound! You can get every kind of reproduction at a relic store near you. I have about seven or eight plates that go along with [a couple of] real finds. My favorite [repro] is my 1812 with 13 stars overhead acting as "clouds by day". Vermont, March 4, 1791 -- 14th state, oops! Gary
