I went to The Shark Pit today for a short time before a storm rolled in & I rolled out! But I did find a police badge from a near by city. (the name was changed to protect the innocent  Grin) I thought it was a kids toy at first but realized it was to heavy & thick to be a toy. The pin part is gone on the back. I wonder if I can track officer #4 down from back then? They might keep records! I also found 3 sharks teeth, 3 cookie coins, one V nickel that I left part of the cookie crust on to show how they look when I find them before I rub the crust off. (you can only remove the crust from the nickels), a ciff link, a brass chain, some kind of bone & other stuff. I also found an old Anheuser Busch bottle. Thanks for looking!

Hey Rob that is great stuff.  Shocked

The badger ah, I mean badge, can be traced. You have the name and number and it should be a piece-o-cake. Although I'm thinking the cop may have bit the bullet by now.

Keep dipping into that shark pit! You never know, you may just find Floater out there???  Grin

very cool badge. I wonder if the low number has any thing to do with the age or if they reissued it over and over.

very cool badge. I wonder if the low number has any thing to do with the age or if they reissued it over and over.

Doubtful on that. If an agency has 10 officers, they are numbered one through ten. The highest ranking being number 1, and the newets guy being number 10. As guys got promoted, they switched numbers... AND badges. If officer #3 retired, the new guy would become the new number ten, while the others moved up the number board.

Things are different these days with call numbers and such (hence the #662 in my handle.... that's my badge number). I will always keep my number until the rank of Ass't Chief (651) or Chief (650) is attained. And the higher or lower our badge number shows no sign of seniority. I was 662 the day I was hired and still am 14 years later.

However, the city agencies nearby still rotate numbers.

It does look like one. Cheesy but it is a hinge & not connected to the chain.

That's a good idea BirdMan! I could blind fold people until we were in the water. You would never know where you were at that point! I could guarantee they would at least find sharks teeth & cookie coins! I take PayPal! Grin

Thanks Nana, I did think about your nickel question when I decided to leave the crust on the one nickel in this thread.

Thanks again guys!
