those are nice, i love looking at points from other areas. i only collect from florida and we have a rainbow of colors. the coral can be just about any color when heat treated, same with the cherts. in the archaic periods they started "cooking" the material to make it more workable and the natural oils in the fossilized coral or chert would change the colors heres a thonosassa pointfrom the early archaic peroid(7000-5500 BC) . you can see the fossilized shell in the one on the left

Morning,
OK....now I am officially ILL................Those are fabulous. I am always hesitant to purchase obsidian points due to the amount of fake ones. I just cant tell the difference and you don't find obsidian in any quantity in Louisiana, but those are nice specimens and look quite genuine to me. You have indeed been busy. Yep, I'll take if you are giving.....LOL.

I lived in Tallahassee, born in Ft. Walton. I used to search wherever I was working on construction sites. I was accused on this site of being an academic, what a laugh I had with that. I'm supposed to start on another job soon (construction of a mall ) in Winter Garden. That will be near off Lake Apopka so I hope to find some things there. I live on the East Coast now. I've worked on some buildings at Florida U. and used to search in Hogtown Creek. Mostly sharks teeth! Good luck! Hogtown creek stuff

You think that tang blade was made that way or saved and resharpened after it broke? I'll try and post a pic later of a similar one that I think is a reworked marion. I have a Edgefield scraper I think started off as something different too.

I'm guessing it was made that way on purpose. The reason I say that is: Let's say that it was originally made as a spear or point of some kind and was symmetrical. I tried to picture a shoulder on the other side equal to that on the right only bigger because the point veers so far to the left that the shoulders would have both had to have been much larger to end up with a symmetrical point. If you do that you can see that the point would have been very large indeed (if we assume that the normal ratio of length to width applies) and if that was indeed the case the base would be disproportionately small. Of course there's nothing that says they couldn't have also re worked the base but it seems more likely that it was made this way intentionally as a tang knife... perhaps it has still been resharpened but the basic form remains I think. Not that any of that matters because one guess is as good as another of course but... heck... I just had to throw my two cents worth in.

Nice piece Greg, sweet piece o' the ridge. I think most obsidian is pretty scary to tell you the truth. Mostly because it doesn't patinate ( if that's a word) like most materials, and modern knappers love working with it. I'd have to hold them in hand and put them under a scope to be certain. My gut feeling is too good to be true, mostly because of the pristine condition they're in. If authentic it's the nicest frame of obsidian I've ever seen by far. What's your opinion on that frame.
