Well The Shark Pit is now closed for the season! As sad as that may be, I did have a great season this year! I made 29 trips to The Pit this year! Even on the days that the waves beat me up, thunder storms cut my time short, jelly fish stung me or the time that "Saktie" the skate chased me out of the water, I had a ton of fun!! This also means it's time for The Best Of The Shark Pit Part 4! This post represents the last 14 trips of this season. I will show all the grand totals at the end of this post. So let's get started because we have alot to talk about & 18 pictures to show!! First of all if you don't know about the Shark Pit yet & have questions, (you must be new ) click here for the story of the Shark Pit & answers to ALL your questions and links to The Best Of The Shark Pit Part's 1, 2 & 3! http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,42179.0.html OK, let's just start off with a picture that leaves no question why I call it The Shark Pit! This is just some of the 148 shark teeth I found! I get asked all the time how I find these with a metal detector. Like the bottles, glass chips, bones, buttons & other non metal items I find, they just come up in my scoop! This next picture shows some of the 72 StingRay teeth/plates that I found out there. It also shows some of the many inner ear bones, vertebrae and other bone fragments that I find. You can also see the StingRay /Skate Barb that I found. This is the same thing (but smaller) that killed Croc. Hunter Steve Irwin. It made me think more about that day "Skatie" kept swimming around me & splashing for 45 min. until I just left. The next picture shows just some of the 95 Cookie coins I found. You can also see what's left of the silver dollar cookie coin I found after I used Electrolysis on it. The next picture is of the 23 V nickels, 27 Buffalo Nickels,11 pennies, 1 barber quarter & 3 of the 10 tokens I found. The next picture shows the collection of hat & safety pins I found. The funny thing about this is I just noticed when I was putting this picture together to scan that the 2 heart pins have the Lords Prayer written on them. And the small safety pins have a fancy design on them. I taped two of them on edge so you could see. The writing is so small on the hearts that I just thought they had lines on them back when I first found them & cleaned them up! I guess I need to look a little harder at my finds. My eyes are getting bad though in my old age! This next picture shows some of the jewelry I have found out there. There is an Eagle pin that I have been told by 3 people that it's from the Civil War era! Also a broach, bracelet, other charms, ear ring, pins and many Cuff links. I believe that the cuff links must have been prizes for the games of chance that were at this place. Or someone was selling them at a stand or out of a suitcase & dropped them because I found almost all of them in the same spot! The next picture is of the rings I found out there. Included in this picture is the Class of 1963 ring that has since been returned to it's owner after he lost it 43 years ago! I will post the whole story of this ring later because it's good one! The next picture shows a collection of little toys, beads, buttons and tokens. Ever since I doubled the screen mesh on my floating sifter this July, I have been finding more of the smaller items. I guess this size stuff was falling through before. Some of the items in this picture are 2 whistles, 3 clay marbles, a small tea pot, the other 7 tokens, a Chinese coin that I'm told is from between 1734-1786 and other Misc. things. The next picture shows a pocket watch, 2 buckles, a key to a model A Ford, another key that says "Yale", parts to another pocket watch, a napkin fold & parts of another, and other misc. things! The next picture is of a small cross pin I found that I & others have tried to find out what it is for but have had no luck. It says "TECH" across it & "L W" from top to bottom. OK, Scroll down to see the rest of this post & more pictures!

The next picture shows a pocket knife, a knife handle, a collection of bullets & shells, an old lock and other misc. things that I have found out there. The next picture shows 2 type of light fixtures, whats left of 3 batteries, whats left of a umbrella handle that looks like a big walnut, a pipe fitting & other misc. things. Next is a picture of an old cow bell that I pulled up out there! Funny because my CZ-20 MD gave me a bell tone when I hit it! Now that's a positive ID right there!! The next picture shows a old food scale face plate. I thought it was a thermometer when I first pulled it up. The next picture is of some other misc. things that I found. Part of a Zebco fishing rod, a turtle shell, some insulators, a worn out shoe sole & a salt shaker that looks like a Jennie bottle! The next picture shows brass parts of an old National cash register. Here is a link to a site that has a picture of what it looked like! http://www.cashregisterman.com/antique.htm The next picture shows some of the many glass & pottery chips I find! And the last picture shows some of the many bottles & glasses I find out there. Most of the time I step on them & then just kick them in my scoop to pull them up! Also in this picture is a telephone insulator I found! Now for the Life Time Grand Totals!! With the totals from part 4 added in I have found the following to date; 286 Cookie coins 97 V nickels 87 Buffalo nickels 34 Pennies 32 Tokens 28 Rings (4 Gold) 117 Bottles 114 StingRay Teeth And 312 SHARKS TEETH!!! JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SAFE... Thanks for hanging in there with me on this very long post!! I hope you enjoyed it! ;) Until next spring this will be the last Shark Pit Post.

That's what I call a take! Rob I wonder how much stuff was taken out of that spot over the years? Too bad you didn't have exclusive hunting rights to the location. The stuff those folks lost really tells a story, doesn't it? Great post. Badger

Thanks so much for all your replies! I'm glad that so many of you have been enjoying The Pit post this season! I'm alright now, but by the time next spring gets here I will be dying to get back out there! I still like land hunting & beach combing, but it's just not the same for me anymore after hunting this site the last few years. Oh well I guess I will get more things done around the house now! (My wife likes that part) Thanks again guys, Rob

Man you had a heck of a season.
HH
PS The skates out here on the West Coast are harmless, but they look dangerous. On the other hand, Sting Rays can be dangerous as we all know from The CH’ers sad end.
Skates and Sting Rays resemble each other but if you know what to look for they are easily discerned from each other. They have distinct noses and tails. Caught a many while fishing.

Nice haul. That place has been good to you. Seems to never dry up. I love when I get a good spot that has not been hunted before - it just keeps producing for many, many hunts.
