Detector used Detector(s) Used - Fisher Impulse, Fisher CZ-21, Minelab X-Terra 70

Posted Jun 14, 2007, 05:47:47 am

Would anyone be interested in a Beach Party and Treasure Hunt on the 1715 Treasure Beaches for 11/12 August (the second weekend in August)??

If so, post here and/or PM me. My suggestion is that we all meet at the Sebastian Inlet State Park (North Side) on Saturday the 11th for a beach party, cook out, some treasure hunting and just general beach fun. Then Sunday the 12th we can spend the entire day hitting all of the local beaches with our detectors. We'll meet at 8:00am on the north side of the Inlet (trust me, you'll know where our tables are....lol) and start eating about 11:00.

This is for anyone, newbie and old timer alike. I'll even take care of the cooking on Saturday. I promise a menu fit for the royalty we as Treasure Hunters are. Roast Pork (Hawaiian style), marinated boneless chicken breasts, steamed corn on the cob smothered in butter (none of that margarine stuff for us, only the best) and all of the other goodies that accompany them. I'll even put on hot dogs and hamburgers for those that just have to have them.

I believe that aside from being great fun, this would be a good opportunity to meet, share knowledge and have a lot of TH'ng fun. Much of the information currently available in print on the treasure beaches is long outdated (as well as a lot that doesn't even appear in print). Seeing them first hand and actually seeing how to work the beach is more often then not the best way to learn for a newbie. It will also give everyone a chance to ask and find out about their Md's and other equipment as well as see what others are using and find out why.

Bring the kids too if you want, make it a family outing (those that misbehave can be put up for auction and sold....lol). Campers can stay at the Sebastian Inlet State Park itself. Those that don't want to camp can stay at the Penwood Lodge (that's where I'll be staying) in Sebastian or any of the many hotels in Vero Beach not to far down the road.

There is so much to learn about the area that is not generally available in the books. Good hunting spots like the old Aquarina, Round house, and the Pines to name a few. If you snorkel, bring your equipment. Sea conditions and water clarity permitting, you can go right from the beach and swim over cannon that had once been on the decks of the treasure Galleons or look over the wrecks of two Civil War blockade runners that often have their remains uncovered by wave action just north of the Inlet. All it takes is being shown exactly where they are. There are also many little known surfer accesses that save a lot of walking in the sand to get to many of these lesser known sites. The possibilities for having TH'ing fun over the weekend are endless.

Be observant and with a little luck you might even get to watch the Sea Turtles come ashore and lay their eggs (I generally take walks on the beach at night to check out the turtles and anyone who wants to come along is more then welcome).

I was serious about handling the cookout (and the menu is real also) so come on out and have fun. Those that know me, know that I love to do the beach party thing and will put on quite a feed. Bring your own drinks and chairs. I would appreciate a donation of $5.00 per person to defray the cost of the food (this is an honor system donation and not a money maker, you're not going to be watched and numbered....lol).

PLEASE, IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE THERE LET ME KNOW, EITHER HERE ON THIS THREAD OR IN A PM. I need to know to make sure there are plenty of eats for everyone.

UPDATE 22, June 2007:  Just to let everyone know. I just got off of the phone with the PENNWOOD LODGE in Sebastian. They have rooms available at this time. There numbers are (772) 589-3855, Toll Free (866) 742-9240 and FAX at (772) 388-3050. Remember, the beach party is August 11 and 12 on the North Side of Sebastian Inlet State Park. The Cookout will be on Saturday the 11th.
Deepsix

UPDATE 8 July, 2007: I've had a number of people suggest a door prize for the one that comes the greatest distance. What I've decided to do instead is offer a little treasure Hunt. There is NO CHARGE for this special hunt and it will be very informal in keeping with the whole idea of the Beach Party and cookout (remember everyone, this is not a money maker. It is a get together to have a good time and to swap knowledge if you want to). The unsupervised (honor) donation of $5.00 per person to offset the expense of the food is all that is being requested.

I make hand hammered, solid brass, belt buckles that I sell to historical reenactors. They are made for 2" and 3" belts. They are also identical to the buckles that the Spanish explorers wore during the conquest of the New World.

I am going to take one buckle of each size and bury them in the area of our Beach Party. At a given time I'll let everyone know the general area they are in and all that want to can go for them. No two are exactly as they are hand worked. I'm looking forward to meeting all and having a great time!!!!
Deepsix

UPDATE 29 July, 2007: While at Peg Legs Treasure Expo on Saturday, I traded for a few Treasure Coins from the Jupiter Inlet wreck. They aren't in the best of shape but they are 8 Reals off of a Spanish Treasure Wreck. They are probably going out as gifts so I was thinking that one of them should make it down to the Beach Party and somehow end up in the hands of someone attending.

Since this is an entirely not for profit thing I don't think a Raffle or Auction would be appropriate. Soooooooooooo, how about some ideas from those that are attending. How do we decide who gets the treasure coin??

Post your suggestions. The one who posts the suggestion that I use first, will get their very own, made by deepsix, leather trimmed, Pirate eyepatch with antiqued silver Skull and Crossed Cutlasses or choker (your choice).

OK, with all of that said, lets hear some ideas from the crew attending the party. Remember, no raffles or auctions. This is a freebie as are the two buckles that are going to be buried and MD'd for. Make the ideas fun and treasure hunting orientated.
Deepsix

UPDATE 5 August 2007: Weather Update for the Beach Party: There is not any Tropical weather that should effect us at this time (that's either good or bad depending on how you look at it....lol). There is however a possibility of rain showers. This is an issue I'll deal with when I get out to the inlet Saturday morning to grab our tables.

As of now we will be getting together on the North side of Sebastian Inlet Recreation Area. I picked this because there are more amenities available and tables under the trees (but no covered tables). just go through the entrance and follow the road back and into the parking area.

Should rain be in the forcast for Saturday I will merely set up everything on the South side of the Inlet under the covered tables. Should that be the case, just go in the South Entrance and follow the road to the left. The covered tables are out on the point just past the boat ramp. either way we will be there and having the party so don't let a little rain deter you from coming.

Whichever side we end up on Just look for a White Ford Ranger with a big Green Canoe tied to the top of it. That will mean that Deepsix is there and set up for the party. I'll also have a few Pirate flags flying to guide you to the spot.
Deepsix

UPDATE 6 July 2007: Ok everyone, time is getting close. Remember to bring your own drinks and a chair. I'll have three or four extras with me that you can borrow if need be.

Also remember that if you are a snorkeler to bring your gear. Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, weather and sea conditions permitting, I'll take anyone that wants to out to a cannon from the Treasure Wrecks that is only in about 76 feet of water and about 50 feet off of the beach. All we really need is half way decent visibility and reasonable seas to get on it. It's pretty cool to touch one of those things and know that at one time it protected one of the greatest treasures ever to be shipped from the New World.

I'll be arriving at the Penwood early Friday. If I manage to get all of the prep for the party done and anyone wants a brush up course on snorkeling, stop by and we can use their pool (no scuba gear in the pool). If you haven't snorkeled in awhile or just want to learn, you really ought to consider stopping by. It's easy, great fun and will open up a whole new world to you.

I'll be on site about 5:30am to grab our tables on the North Side of the inlet (South side if the weather doesn't cooperate). Just look for the white Ford Ranger with the big green canoe strapped to it.

Start arriving about 8:00am (or earlier if you want). We'll eat about 11:00am and the before and after time will be for fun and Th'ing. I'll have the "treasure" buried before anyone arrives and will give the general location after we eat. I think I'm going to just bury the coin also. Now there you go. You'll have a chance to find a real piece of treasure on the Treasure Beaches. Bring your MD's, it's going to be a great weekend at the beach.
Deepsix

UPDATE 8 August 2007: I've got everything stacked in my living room and ready to load. The buckles and coin are packed away and something else too. I really do want everyone to have a chance at finding some real treasure so I decided to throw in something else. I'm not going to say what they are but those that don't have adequate MD's or for that matter don't have an MD at all, will have the chance of finding some real treasure. You will have the chance to see some samples of what you are looking for before you start your hunt.
Deepsix

FINAL UPDATE 9 aUGUST 2007: Thanks Big, you're right, it's going to be great!!

Well, the truck is loaded and quivering with anticipation. Deepsix is going to catch a few hours sleep then hit the road.

It's going to be hot so bring plenty of fluids and sun screen (and an appetite). Make sure the MD has fresh batteries and get ready to hunt treasure on the best Treasure Beaches in the World.

I look forward to meeting all of you!!
Deepsix

Deepsix47, I  would love to.  I will put it on my calender.  My girlfriend also likes beach detecting and SCUBA detecting.  Maybe we'll get a storm to erode the beaches!  Anything to get over there.  We'll help out too.  Steve and Lynn.

That's great. That makes 14 confirmed now.

Good point about a possible storm. Unless it's just some kind of a monster, just think about it. We'll already be in the area and ready to hit those really great beaches that are stripped of their sand covering. It makes your mouth water just to think about it. Also, instead of a beach party it merely becomes a hurricane party. The very best of both worlds. I love it.

Thanx buddy, I knew you two would be there. Also, thanx to all who have offered to help out if need be. You might just get a PM should this really get big....lol.

Also, just to let everyone know. The Cookout will be on the 11th.

I like staying there because its clean, they have a great pool, and it's the closest to the Treasure Beaches. I'll be getting there on Friday the 10th (it takes a good day to prep the eats for a large group....lol) and stay through the weekend.

Their pool is great to brush up on your snorkeling if you're a bit rusty (I've given more then one snorkeling lesson in that pool....lol) so if you're planning to get into the water bring your gear.

WOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOO!  Hubby said yes!!!!!  You might count us as four (4).  If we end up bringing our son we might have to let him bring his best friend because he HATES metal detecting and it will keep him occupied, they love to fish so that would be good that we'll be at the beach.  I can't wait to meet some other MD'ers!  I don't know anyone else who does it around here and I have so much to learn.  I get consistently skunked at the beach so I know I'm doing something wrong and it will be great to have someone to learn from.  Oooooohhh!  I can't wait!

That's 30 confirmed so far. I understand a number of others will be camping too. Vicki, fishing from the rocks in the inlet is great so your son and friend will have a great time. Who knows, with this group he might even pick up the MD'ing bug too.

Yes it is.

My first Avatar was carved from petrified Mammoth Ivory. I wore it and this one all of the time. Recently I gifted the first one to my nephew (he earned it) so thought as it wasn't mine any longer I should change the Avatar.

It's Sterling. This one was a gift a very long time ago. Because of the circumstances and the way I took the hog, they decided I needed something special from it.

That's a nice set. I can put you in touch with a good friend in Ocala that can cap them for you if you want. He does great work.

WOW!!!! I'm impressed. We've got 41 confirmed. One is coming from Missouri and another from Tennessee. This is going to be a REALLY good one!!!!

I also would like to thank all of those that have volunteered to help out. I have a couple of long time Th'ing friends that are going to be helping me with the prep work and cooking. That will be fine for up to about 50/60. After that though I will be contacting some of those that have offered. I've got everything else covered but help with the prep will be greatly appreciated.

The biggest one of these things I ever put together was a big Surfer/Diver Luau on the beach in California. It was a a riot....lol. There turned out to be 102 of us at that one. We dove for two days prior getting lobsters, rock scallops and Ab's. The only sour note of the whole thing was for me. I had spent all day doing the cooking and when it came time for me to eat, just the thought was disgusting....lol.

I've had a number of people suggest a door prize for the one that comes the greatest distance.

I make hand hammered, solid brass, belt buckles (among other things) that I sell to historical reenactors. They are made for 2" and 3" belts. They are also identical to the buckles that the Spanish explorers wore during the conquest of the New World (in fact, a painting of a Conquistador is where I got the idea to make them).

I am going to take one buckle of each size and bury them in the area of our Beach Party. At a given time I'll let everyone know the general area they are in and all that want to can go for them. No two are exactly alike as they are hand worked. Below is a picture of each. I'm looking forward to meeting all and having a great time!!!!

Contact the Sebastian Inlet State Recreation area in Sebastian, Florida. They are out on A1A. That's where we are having the beach party. They have campsites on the South side of the inlet. We will be having our get together on the North Side.

You're right Joanie, it's going to be a blast!!!!

I hope that all who can't make it this time will be able to make a future one (I do like doing these things).

I spent the weekend over with Aquanut and his lady in Orlando and Saturday we drove over to Peg Legs Treasure Expo in Cocoa Beach. To all of those that spotted me and came up to say hi, I've got to tell you, with people like you coming to the Beach Party, it can't help but be great!!!!

There is going to be so much experience there that a newbie won't be able to absorb all of the information available. Aquanut and I met up with old friends, made some new ones and in general just had a great time. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Beach Party.

ALSO, while at the Expo, I traded for a few Treasure Coins from the Jupiter Inlet wreck.

The one who posts the suggestion that I use first, will get their very own, made by deepsix, leather trimmed, eyepatch with antiqued silver Skull and Crossed Cutlasses or choker (your choice).

OK, with all of that said, lets hear some ideas from the crew attending the party. Remember, no raffles or auctions. This is a freebie as are the two buckles that are going to be buried and MD'd for. Make the ideas fun and treasure hunting orientated.

Maybe we can donate items for the hunt (i.e. coins, inexpensive rings, etc). At our annual club hunt in Jacksonville several members donated items that were buried along with the main items. The idea is that the more items available more people will get something.

For the treasure coin idea what about burying tokens and with one specially marked for the treasure coin.

Happy Hunting to all!

or... we all recieve a treasure map and have to figure out how to read it to find where x marks the spot on it to be lead to the coin treasure.  Like have the treasure map with clues we have to decipher and figure out. I think the scavenger hunt one would be easier though for the host to put together.  There will be different clues and each clue leads to another until you get to the end where the treasure is.

Well, we now have 59 confirmed and a dozen or so maybes. This is going to be a great party. With less then two weeks to go, this is the confirmed menu but more may be added. PLEASE NOTE that I, Deepsix, make all of my Marinades from scratch. Nothing comes pre-bought in a bottle so warm up your taste buds!!!! All of my recipes come from my travels and are tried and true. If you leave hungry from this Beach Party it's no ones fault but your own....lol.

....Roast Pork Loin (I got this one from some good friends in Hawaii)
....Char Shu Pork (Hawaiian Style BBQ pork)
....Marinated Boneless Chicken Breasts (Samoan style)
....Marinated Beef Sticks (Tahitian style)
....Steamed corn on the cob (With melted butter. Only the best for us)
....Deviled Eggs (A recipe I picked up from some Native American friends in the Pacific Northwest)
....Tossed Salad (I'm going to have some assorted dressings but they will be store bought. I just won't have time to make them from scratch. Yea, I know Aquanut. I must be getting lazy)

Should anyone arriving of Friday have a couple of extra coolers (the larger the better) that could be borrowed for the day, please PM me with a phone number so we can hook up at the Pennwood in Sebastian. My plan is to check in early so I can get everything prepped for Saturday and I'm running close on cooler space. It's gonna be fun!!!!

Weather Update for the Beach Party: There is not any Tropical weather that should effect us at this time (that's either good or bad depending on how you look at it....lol).

That's a great idea. This was put together kind of on the spur of the moment but if everyone has fun and supports it, I'll certainly be glad to do another one. The important thing is that it is kept as a party where old friends can come together and at the same time meet new friends. That's what a beach party is all about.

The cool twist to ours is that a wealth of knowledge about the Treasure Beaches will be available to all (old timers and new alike). Should we have another one I'll talk to the Penwood about blocking off some rooms for us at a better rate. That being said, lets see what happens this coming weekend and go from there.

Ok everyone, time is getting close. Remember to bring your own drinks and a chair. I'll have three or four extras with me that you can borrow if need be.

Also remember that if you are a snorkeler to bring your gear. Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, weather and sea conditions permitting, I'll take anyone that wants to out to a cannon from the Treasure Wrecks that is only in about 6 feet of water and about 50 feet off of the beach.

I'd like to thank all that offered the use of coolers, no need after all. It gave me a good excuse to dig through the innards of my storage area. Not only did I find coolers, I found enough dive gear to open my own shop and even a couple of surfboards I had been going nuts over the last year trying to remember who I may have loaned them to in a state of temporary insanity....lol. When I get back from the party I guess I'll have to dig through the other half to see what's over there.

Anyway, I've got everything stacked in my living room and ready to load.

Well, I have a few more things to work on before calling it a day. My last update will be tomorrow evening. I've also been posting all updates in the initial post on the thread so if you think you missed something just go up to it and take a look.

Thank you so much deepsix for putting this all together. It was so much fun today.  I wish I could have stayed for tomorrow, But so much to do at home and plus dakota was just starting a summer cold.  He had a good time too and the emerald was the highlight for him.  The FOOD!  It was all so great. Im so glad I got to meet some of the T-NET group. I really feel like I knew them anyway.  Trez has some awesome pitures to share too.  I wanted to listen to everyones story and I felt like I was running from table to table to get tidbits of great adventures.   Next time I want to see the cannons.
Thanks so much for the warm welcome!!!!

Well I went out to Deep six’s little gig today, and I must say if you weren’t there you missed quit a gathering and a great time.
I finally put some faces to the people on this site. When I was at peg legs expo I kept missing everyone.
We arrived about 8:20 or so after doing a bit of detecting around the Indialantic area, and couldn’t miss Brads white ranger with the green canoe on top. (Not really sure what he had in mind with that, seems like a guy with a plan when it happens.)
We had the emerald hunt early due to non TN people arriving and using the emeralds for little green rocks in their rock collection.
My not to well trained eyes could not find a thing even though Deep Six said they were in plain sight.
My buddy that came with me immediately found two and I talked him out of one. (What a guy, he gave me one)   I then found one on my own and still have the one he gave me. Grin
The next hunt was after a wonderful lunch cooked up by deep six. I must say, this man can make some food that you will bring you back for more.
The people over in the cove area where deep six hid his stuff were quit surprised by all the people with metal detectors rushing the beach at one time.
It must have been about 1000 degrees out there, but the heat went away in the heat of the search.
I don’t think anyone cracked a coil on someone else’s, but it was a close hunt and fun.
If I could remember everyone’s name I would be a politician, so give me a break if I forget your name.
T net names are easer.
I dint find the 8 real but did find the two buckles, some foreign coins and a Minelab pin (Do I get a free Minelab for that?).
I am really happy to find something that one of our fellow T net members made from hand. That means a lot to me.
Deep Six did an outstanding job. That guy put some serious work and sweat, and I mean sweat into this outing. Once again Deep Six, Thanks for the good time.

P.S. The ear rings in the photo? Found those at Indialantic. I told my wife that rust was in, but she doesn’t want them. However, she does want the emeralds. ;)
Saw the Polly L on the way home.

I dont see myself in any of the pics, but I was there. I found an emerald that looks to have been in the surf. Had a great time. I tried my Pi on the beach Sat afternoon and found out my sensitivity doesnt work and was stuck way to low. So instead of staying over at the Penwood, I drove on home. Everyone was Great and Im glad to have had the oppurtunity to meet y'all. Cant wait until next time and I will not start my drinking so early if its hot. Cheesy ;)

Yup!  It was a great time and I really enjoyed meeting everyone too!!  DeepSix put on an awesome BBQ with entrees with an international flair!  Between the great treasure hunting stories and the food, I felt like I had traveled the world!  I'm sorry I didn't make it to the hunt on Sunday, but it was just too gosh-darn hot!  My husband and I drove around the treasure coast though and found a bunch of places we will definitely go back when it's a little cooler.  DeepSix worked very hard on this get-together and I want to thank him so much.  I finally got to meet other MD'ers and they're all a great bunch of people!  T-Net is very lucky to have such warm and welcoming group of people on here.  Thanks to all of you and especially to DeepSix for showing us a great time!

On behalf on my wife and myself, I want to thank Deepsix for an outstanding time. The food was great and all the T-hunters were as nice in person as they are on this forum. It was nice to finally put a face with a name. If Brad ever has another outing, and you can, you should make the effort to go...you will not be disappointed. If only Brad could have lowered the temp about 20 degrees, but with all that food, who's complaining.

Thanks again Brad,

As a longtime friend of Deepsix, I want to thank all you guys and gals that showed up for the picnic. It really meant a lot to him to have such great people enjoy themselves at this outing. I myself have learned not to be suprised by his superb cooking. If you want something he cooks during the next picnic that is really special, try talking him into cooking up a drum of Gumbo! You'll love it! I want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed talking to all you guys. I wish I had gotten to meet everyone there, but the conversations I was having with those I met were so interesting, the time just flew by. See ya'll at the next one!!

I would like all of you that showed up at the party to know just how special you made it. It might have been my idea but each and every one of you are responsible for its success.

Each person attending made their own special contribution by just being there.  Treasure Net has great people aboard and for those that contributed surprises for me, all I can say is that they were really special and just made our little get together even more of a success. If I leave someone out please PM me so I can add you to the list for a public and personal thank you.

Maurice (donated coins to be buried), GoldenEagle and his lovely wife (the table of free handouts on treasure hunting), Aquanut (for getting up at 4:00am with me and helping me get the tables set up at the inlet), Crissy, Debbie and Lynda who kept me sprayed down with those little water bottles with the fans on them and helped with the cooking), Trez who brought the albums of his treasure finds and shared them along with his knowledge so generously with everyone), Tom, Pete and Jason, the crew of the Conquistador, who so many people commented on how cool it was to meet treasure hunters that were actually out working the treasure fleet (I hope you guys ate well Saturday night), Big Cypress (who brought along those really great finds of his) and each and every one of you that brought along extra ice and offered to help in anyway you could. Mitch and the Sebastian Archaeology Society (what a super group of people and with so much knowledge of the local area). Thank you just doesn't seem enough somehow.

I must have missed somebody and if I did I offer you a heart felt apology right up front.

I would also like to comment on the children that came along. Each and every one of you were well behaved, courteous and no doubt a part of the future of treasure hunting. You are a credit to your parent's and they deserve to be very proud of you.

I was very busy and tired by the end of the day and didn't get a chance to meet all of you but I look forward to us doing this again in the future (when the temps cool off a bit....lol). We might even be fortunate enough to do it around the time of a good winter storm. I was thinking possibly around March sometime.

All of you are the very best of the treasure hunting community and it was super fun being at the party with you.

It really was a great time...I was a little upset with our engine troubles on the boat when I got there, but after a few beers and a few treasure tales, I was glad we got the opportunity to go. It's always cool to meet the folks you hear from everyday here on TNET. I'll be back for the second one, and maybe we can even show up on time next time. Thanks Brad for putting it together....next time, LET SOMEONE HELP YOU! LOL We all tried to help him load the car and even after his long day, he wouldn't accept it, he just insisted that we all sit and talk. Great guy! rest assured that the crew ate well that night.

Thanks!

Yeah Wreckdiver, I was looking forward to meeting you there. You were kind enough to answer my first questions on Tnet and I haven't forgotten. There will be another get together and hopefully I'll be able to thank you in person then.

Aquanaut, I remember, that's pretty good for an old man like myself. It was the 1715 Beach Party, or a week of diving down in the Keys, and I try to never miss the opportunity of diving in such a target rich environment.

Well, it was a great party, I've finally recouped and as of a few minutes ago finally got all caught up on my email.

We'll do it again when the weather gets a bit cooler. My best to all.

It was great. All 5 Emeralds, the belt buckles, coins and items kindly donated by Minelab and Maurice were found. In addition clad, pop tabs and other regular beach finds were made. It was a blast and we'll probably do another one when it cools off a bit.
