well i went out hunting in the woods today with a friend of mine and i had one great find!!!   a gold pocket watch. its small about the size of a half dollar or a little smaller and it has like dimond chips in the back. how you see it is how it came out of the ground. i need some id! inside it says LAMARCHAND  A RENNES.  theres 2 serial numbers to date it but i dont know were its from . im thinking french? theres a dimond inscribed inside with a s and a g im guessing that stands for solid gold. any one see one of these befor?  willy.

Nice watch, would you say it is a womens watch.  I am thinking that it could be a name of the owner or the watch maker. La Marchand  a  Rennes.  Marchand is a common french last name Rennes  is a city in France.

went to a clock shop today the guy couldnt give me much info because the lack of markings but he did say because of the inner works it was between 1870-1890. after that i went to a coin shop to have the gold tested and it came out 18k so my guess would be that those are real diamond chips. heres a marking on the back has anyone seen this?  . willy.

Great find Bill, next time your in Boston take that watch into the Jewelers Building on Washington St. Let the experts have a look at it. Ifound a Ladies pocket watch diving and had it repaired there several years ago. In the old days people would buy the watch case and the movements seperately. A jeweler would put them together. My watch was a fairly common  Waltham made here in Taxachusetts, and the jeweler had a movement that fit it. Your watch looks like something seen on the Antique Roadshow.

Have you had the back off yet to see what the works look like ..?  It would be neat if it was fixable with the original clock works.  Cool Cool
