I just wanna keep on going... and going... and...

 Pirate

OK Gang, so I know the TDI has been the subject of mystery for a long time.  Well I just had to see for myself.  So... thanks to the generosity of a good friend, I now have one, and I took her out for a spin yesterday evening/night.  Well I say that, because I was overcome with the need to dig, and the ground is frozen, the days are short and the targets are deep, so I got into darkness trying to get one out of the hole last night... which cost me.

I took the TDI, and, using the field guide, set it up for coins and beach.  I set it to low conductors only so she wouldn't hit any iron and so that the signal would give me a little more depth.  I set the pulse as quick as she would go (10) and the Gain at about 8.  Ground Balanced her and she fell in at about 8.5 on the scale, which was "just into the notch"... sorta like how you tune the BH300 until she falls quiet when you pump the coil.  I took 3 steps and hit the first target.

According to the field guide, the good targets are sharp if they are shallow, and "rounded" if they are deep.  First target... sorta half and half so I went down about a foot and dug a coin I knew was silver.  Didn't clean it in the field, just put it in a bottle cause I didn't want to scratch it with all the ice in the dirt.

Literally 3 steps later, within a couple feet and I hit the second target.  This one came across as a "ooooooooooooooWAHHHHooooooooooWAHHHHoooooooo", so I knew it was deep.  Well, I went down to the top of the shank of a regular long handled shovel (18+), left to run erands then came back to finish it up after dark, and went to my knees to get it out.  Used the lesche the last 3 passes which was the mistake... but popped out a MUCH larger coin... what would turn out to be an 1845 seated half!  Problem is, I'm not sure how much damage I did with the lesche or the fact that it was in a path between the cabin and where the old barn used to be.

Oh well... my first two seated coins, back to back, with a machine I've used now twice... and never dug what I heard until last night because the ground is so frozen.  Decided not to dig anything today for fear that I might damage it.

Best

Thump

PS:  Notice that the dime has ABSOLUTELY no discernible back on it!!!! Strange!!!

Awesome finds with that TDI Thumper Thumbs Up there's not a VLF made that can match the depth of a TDI pulse, nobody around here that I know of owns one but ever since they came out I've always wanted one for them old hammered out spots cause I know there's coins down there that are out of reach and the TDI  is the machine that can hear them.

You know Giant, it's almost FREAKISH how she can hear that stuff down there.  I've hit this cabin with every Whites I've ever owned... time and time again... and, for the most part that yard is silent (see my other post today).  But that TDI can hear the whispers of the deep silver... even that the V3 can't get to.  But I'm still learning...   Cool Cool Cool

Nope.  You don't have too, because the TDI is set up to let you listen to either high conductors (like iron), or low conductors(like silver, copper, etc), or both.  With it set to high conductors only, you basically walk over all the iron and she won't make a peep, even on a car hood if it's iron.  With the switch set to "All", she will give you a smeared low tone for iron, a sharp, well defined low tone for brass, gold, nickel, and a high pitched, very defined POP for good low conductors which include bullets, buttons, and coins.  It's really that simple.

You know, there has been a saying about the TDI that the good thing is that you can dig an 18" bullet and the bad thing is that you'll dig an 18" nail.  This is true to a point, but only to the point that you have the TDI listening to both types of conductors... that is set to "All".   I'll get the deep coins listening only to the low conductors with the TDI, then come back and sort the gold from the trash with... the V3 of course.

The deep gold can wait until the third pass with the TDI... after I've cleaned the place up with the V3.  At least, that's the battle plan in theory!

I'll let ya know!!!  Pirate Pirate

Howdy Amigo!
Congrats on the silver, and on the banner too!
Way to go pardner. Maybe I should consider one of them things.
Word has it, however, that it ain't all that good on our mineralized soil.
Maybe somebody around here has one I could test. Don't know of anyone,
but I guess I could check around.

Congrats, congrats and congrats again! Well done!

Blessings,
